For over 500 years Native communities have been faced with relocation, forced assimilation, and attempts at genocide resulting in generations of historical trauma and health disparities. Health and economic disparities have contributed to opioid and stimulant epidemics in many Native communities, which have mobilized to respond. The Indigenous communities Workgroup ensures for the provision of culturally informed education and training developed in partnership with Native communities. It is composed of Tribal behavioral health professionals who are strong allies with significant experience working with Native communities. It also represents diverse experience across Indian Country, including with urban Indian communities, rural reservations, and Alaska Native villages.
